Ascent to the Bench

Aspiring for Judgeship and New Judges

Many young lawyers are enticed by the glamour of the corporate world and law firms, often overlooking the excellent career prospects offered by judicial services. What they may not realize is that judicial services not only provide attractive emoluments and stability, but also carry immense respectability.

Recognizing the shortage of qualified young lawyers for judicial appointments, the Bombay High Court, led by Hon. Shri Justice Abhay Oka, called for action. Responding to this appeal, the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa has taken a commendable initiative to encourage promising advocates to pursue judicial service as a career.

The Bar Council has released a booklet titled “Judicial Service as Career” and launched programs in various districts to prepare young lawyers for recruitment tests. These efforts have yielded positive results, inspiring the Bar Council to systematize its endeavors and introduce a comprehensive training program to prepare young lawyers for a successful ascent to judicial offices.

Esteemed advocates, including the then Advocate Generals of Maharashtra and Goa, Shri Aney and Shri Nadkarni, as well as experienced senior lawyers, have wholeheartedly welcomed this initiative and offered their valuable insights and knowledge despite their busy schedules.

Ekalavya's Support

Ekalavya has also joined forces with the Bar Council by providing preparatory materials to help young lawyers excel in recruitment tests. Excerpts from the publication “Judicial Service as Career,” carefully written by Hon. Shri Justice Dabholkar, have been included.
