Academic Excellence

Born on July 2, 1949, Dr. Justice Chauhan built a strong academic foundation, passing his B.Sc. in 1970 from Meerut University in the first division. He subsequently graduated in Law in 1974 from Banaras Hindu University, also securing a first division.

His academic achievements were further recognized when he was awarded a foreign scholarship, leading him to earn a Ph.D. from Victoria University, Manchester (U.K.) in the year 1979.

Career at the Bar

Enrolled as an Advocate in April 1974, Dr. Justice Chauhan practiced in the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court. His practice was extensive, covering Civil, Criminal, Commercial Taxes, and Services matters. During this time, he also served as Counsel for the Government of Uttar Pradesh and NOIDA in the Supreme Court.

Journey on the Bench

Dr. Justice Chauhan was elevated as a permanent Judge of the Allahabad High Court on April 5, 1995. He was later transferred to the Rajasthan High Court in July 1997, and subsequently transferred back to the Allahabad High Court in March 2003.

His leadership led to his appointment as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court in July 2008. From there, he was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on May 11, 2009, where he served until his retirement on July 1, 2014 (F.N.).
