Our platform is designed to connect new entrants to the Bar with experienced legal professionals (Mentors) to foster learning and development. This policy outlines our practices and your rights concerning your personal data in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 of India.
By creating an account and using our Platform, you provide your explicit consent to the collection, use, and processing of your personal data as described in this Policy.
2. Definitions
- Personal Data: Any data about an individual who is identifiable by or in relation to such data.
- Data Fiduciary: The entity that determines the purpose and means of processing personal data. For this Platform, the Ekalavya Jud movement is the Data Fiduciary.
- Data Principal: The individual to whom the personal data relates (i.e., you, the Intern).
- Data Processor: Any person who processes personal data on behalf of a Data Fiduciary.
3. The Information We Collect (Data Minimisation)
We collect only the information that is necessary to provide and improve our services, verify your identity, and facilitate mentorship connections.
3.1. Information You Provide Directly:
- Account Registration Data: When you create an account, we collect your full name, email address, mobile number, city, and state of residence.
- Professional Verification Data: To maintain the integrity of the platform, we collect your Bar Council Enrollment Number, the name of your university, and your year of graduation.
- Profile Information: You may choose to provide additional information such as your areas of legal interest, a brief biography, and the names of Mentors you are interested in connecting with.
- Communications: We collect information when you communicate with us, such as emails to our support team or messages exchanged through any platform communication features.
3.2. Information We Collect Automatically:
- Log and Usage Data: When you access the Platform, our servers automatically record information, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited, and timestamps of access. This helps us diagnose problems and secure our services.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use essential cookies to maintain your login session and ensure the functionality of our website. We do not use cookies for invasive tracking or targeted advertising. Please see our Cookies section for more details.
4. How We Use Your Information (Purpose Limitation)
We process your personal data for specific, explicit, and legitimate purposes:
- To Provide and Manage Our Services: To create your account, verify your identity, and grant you access to our webinars, materials, and other resources.
- To Facilitate Mentorship: To share your profile information with the Mentor(s) you select, enabling them to review your profile and decide whether to accept you as an Intern.
- To Communicate With You: To send you important notices, updates about the platform, information about webinars, and respond to your queries.
- For Security and Verification: To protect the platform from misuse, verify the authenticity of our users, and enforce our Terms and Conditions.
- To Improve Our Platform: To analyze usage patterns and understand how our services are used, allowing us to enhance user experience and develop new features.
5. How We Share and Disclose Your Information
Your privacy is paramount. We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties. We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:
- With Mentors: When you express interest in a specific Mentor, we will share your registration and profile information with that Mentor for the sole purpose of evaluating your request for mentorship.
- With Service Providers (Data Processors): We may engage third-party companies to perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting, data analysis, and email delivery. These Data Processors are contractually obligated to protect your data and are not permitted to use it for any other purpose.
- With the Technology Support Team: As stated in our Terms, if you request the paid mentor-matching service, your relevant information will be shared with the designated technology support team to fulfill your request.
- For Legal Compliance and Protection: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect the rights and safety of our users, or defend against legal liability.
6. Your Rights as a Data Principal
Under the DPDP Act, 2023, you have the following rights over your personal data:
- Right to Access: You have the right to request a summary of your personal data that we process.
- Right to Correction and Erasure: You can update your profile information through your account settings. You also have the right to request the correction of inaccurate data or the erasure of your personal data, subject to any legal retention requirements. –
- Right to Grievance Redressal: You have the right to lodge a complaint with our designated Grievance Officer if you have any concerns about the processing of your data.
- Right to Nominate: You have the right to nominate another individual who can exercise your rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity.
